Meet Dr David Nguyen,
Adelaide's GP in Glenelg.

I'm a GP who values genuine connection and proactive, practical, personalised care. I love everything about general practice: the variety, the relationships, and the privilege of being someone's doctor across all stages of life. I want you to feel heard, supported, and confident in your health decisions.

Pro Health Care Glenelg · 1 Rose Street, Glenelg SA 5045

Born in Adelaide.
Practising in Glenelg.

"For me, general practice has never been about treating what's already gone wrong. It has always been about the years, often decades, before it does."

I grew up in Adelaide and completed all of my schooling and medical training here. I graduated with an MBBS from the University of Adelaide before undertaking hospital training across metropolitan Adelaide, including at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital and Modbury Hospital across orthopaedics, gastroenterology, rehabilitation, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, and emergency medicine.

I then completed specialist GP training across metropolitan and rural clinics in South and Western Australia, which has given me a breadth of experience that shapes how I approach care today. I completed my fellowship as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).

The reason I chose general practice, rather than other specialties, comes down to something I kept observing during my training. Most of what I was treating had been developing quietly for decades: bones that had never been assessed, blood pressure elevated for years without anyone raising it, metabolic problems that had been silently building long before causing real harm.

Chronic disease accounts for nine in ten preventable deaths in Australia. The WHO estimates at least 80% of premature heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes could be prevented. Those aren't abstract figures. They describe the patients I cared for in those years, and presentations that earlier involvement from a GP, addressing things before they became emergencies, could have changed. My particular interests in preventive health, lifestyle medicine, chronic disease management, mental wellbeing, and weight management reflect that directly. But the approach runs through every consultation.

Clinical interests

I have particular depth in these areas, though I'm passionate about all aspects of general practice.

01
Preventive Health

Proactive assessments, cardiovascular risk, immunisations, and building a health baseline before problems emerge. I'd rather catch things early than manage them later.

02
Men's Health

Sexual health, prostate, cardiovascular risk, and the mental health concerns men often don't raise. Care for every stage of a man's life, including the parts he doesn't talk about.

03
Mental Wellbeing

Depression, anxiety, ADHD, stress. Without judgment. GPMHSC accredited to prepare Mental Health Treatment Plans, with pathways to allied health support.

04
Chronic Disease

Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, COPD. Structured management plans built around your life, not just your chart. Reviewed regularly and adjusted as things change.

05
Lifestyle Medicine

Nutrition, movement, sleep. The foundations that underpin everything else. Evidence-based lifestyle strategies alongside clinical care, because they work best together.

06
Weight Management

Structured lifestyle programs, referral pathways, and evidence-based approaches to sustainable weight management within a holistic health plan. A long-term strategy, not a quick fix.

The kind of GP
you've been looking for.

Finding a GP you actually trust (one who listens, thinks, and has the time) can be harder than it should be. I've built my practice at Pro Health Care Glenelg for the long term, and I've made it my job to make that easier.

New patients are always welcome. Whether you've just moved to Adelaide, you're after a change, or you've never had a regular GP. I'd love to help.

  • Longer appointments, every timeProper time to actually talk. No rushed 5-minute slots. I'd rather understand the full picture than send you away with half an answer.

  • The full picture, every timeLifestyle, stress, mental health, chronic conditions, not just today's symptom. I look at what might be driving things, not just what's on the surface.

People ask me...

Here are the questions I hear most often, answered honestly.

"What kind of GP are you?"

The kind who asks why, not just what. I want to understand the full picture (your lifestyle, your history, what's actually going on), not just treat the symptom in front of me.

"Do you actually have time for me?"

Yes. Appointments here are longer than average, always. I'd rather give you proper time than rush through a list and miss something.

"Can I see you for anxiety or depression?"

Absolutely, and I'd encourage it. I'm GPMHSC accredited, so I can prepare Mental Health Treatment Plans and help you access psychology support directly through your GP.

"Are you taking new patients?"

Always. Whether you've just moved to Adelaide, you've never had a regular GP, or you're after something different. You're very welcome here.

"I've had bad experiences with GPs before."

I hear this a lot. I can't promise I'll be perfect, but I can promise you'll be heard. Longer appointments, no assembly line, and I'll remember who you are.

"Do you do telehealth?"

Yes, for existing patients who have attended in person within the last 12 months or are registered via MyMedicare. New patients need to come in for their first visit.

A GP who's
also a person.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy cooking, camping, and catching up with friends. I'm also (admittedly) far too invested in reality TV. If you want to discuss the latest drama, book an appointment.

Growing up and training entirely in Adelaide means I genuinely understand this city and the people who live here. I think that matters when it comes to knowing what your patients are actually dealing with day-to-day.
